Indian cricket team in England in 1996 : ウィキペディア英語版 | Indian cricket team in England in 1996
The Indian cricket team toured England in mid-1996 and played 11 first-class matches including 3 Tests. They also played in three limited overs internationals which were held prior to the Tests. The Indian team was captained by Mohammed Azharuddin. This series marked the Test debuts of Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Venkatesh Prasad. The former two would go on to become the mainstays of the Indian batting as well as the captains of the Indian cricket team. Ganguly made a ton on debut, scoring 131 in the Second Test at Lord's, while Prasad took 4 wickets in the first innings of his debut test at Edgbaston. Apart from Ganguly, Dravid and Prasad, the team also included established players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Sanjay Manjrekar and Nayan Mongia. The England cricket team was captained by Michael Atherton, with future England captain Nasser Hussain making his Test debut. The series was a disaster for India, with the team losing both the ODI and Test series 2-0. The series also was infamous for a spat between Azharuddin and opener Navjot Singh Sidhu, with the latter eventually walking out of the tour as a result.〔(Lele reveals why Sidhu walked out of 1996 England tour )〕 Following the tour, Azharuddin, who was also facing personal problems at the time, was sacked as captain.〔(Sachin sacked, Azhar back! )〕 ==Test Series==
